PTC's Karen Avelino joins Phil-Dutch JCMA meet

Ms. Karen Avelino, Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC) Executive Director of Business Development for Shipping and Senior Vice President of Cruise Operations, joined Dutch and Philippine maritime officials at the 22nd Joint Committee on Maritime Affairs Meeting held at the Diamond Hotel Manila on March 15.

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) hosted the first face-to-face meeting since 2019 with its longest-running JCMA with a partner country. Marina officials led by Administrator Atty. Hernani Fabia discussed the actions taken to strengthen the country’s implementation of the requirements of the Standards for Certification, Training, and Watchkeeping Convention of 1978 as amended, as well as the Maritime Industry Development Plan.

Other topics discussed were maritime mental health and well-being, the continued inclusion of the country in the International Maritime Organization White List, the development of maritime education in the Philippines, IMO climate policies, and pathways for the decarbonization of the maritime transport sector.
